In July 2004, the consumer price index for all households in the whole of France fell by 0,2% (-0,1% in July 2003). The year-on-year price change was +2,3% after +2,4% last month.
The price index adjusted for seasonal variations put up by 0,1% as in June..
The underlying inflation indicator rose by 0,1% and its year-on-year change accelerate to +1,7% (+1,6% the previous month).
The HICP fell by 0,2% and its year-on-year change was +2,6%.
In July, the consumer price index fall resulted from usual price movements at summer time.
Seasonal drop in the price of fresh produce was very important this year. Then, the summer sales involved a strong decline in prices of clothing and footwear and of other manufactures.
Conversely, prices of certain services traditionally increased as a result of summer holidays and SMIC revaluation at July, 1st. After large evolutions in springtime, prices in energy went up moderately in July.
